Singapore - the Towers, Final Chapter

Checking out the Roof Deck
I'm pretty excited about my roof deck so I take any chance I can to see one and get ideas. Granted, this one is 57 stories up, on top of the three towers I've been following for over a year, but I was still eager. We figured a week day afternoon would be less crowded and we were right. After a quick elevator ride we stepped out onto what felt like the top of the world.

It was incredibly hot up there, more than I expected. I assumed a nice breeze would keep it cool but I was wrong. I stepped over to the glass wall and peered out, then down. I'd be lying if I told you my legs weren't a bit weak. This is a shot from one end looking south to the other. Downtown is to the right. The hotel allows folks like us to spend a few bucks to see the roof deck but certain sections are reserved for guests.

In the very middle of the deck is a small walkway with trees planted on either side. They're recently planted - I expect when they fill in this will be a nice shaded tunnel. To the left is the ocean view, east into the Pacific.

This is a view northwest, across the bay. Though these shots don't show it, you can see quite a ways. In one direction you can see Johor Bahru, Malaysia's southernmost city. You can also see the entire coastline of Singapore, east and west. It's the first time I've seen the scope of the building here, there are cranes everywhere. It was shocking - you simply don't get the same feeling at ground level. I tried in vain to locate our condo as Dodo laughed at me. "Babe, you cannot see that from here." I'm pretty sure with a map in hand I could have.

The pool is on the western edge, facing downtown. It's what they call an "infinity" pool, it is designed to look like it reaches the horizon. You can swim right up to the edge, 57 stories up.

I cannot imagine the hotel guests enjoyed being gawked at by losers like us but then again, maybe they're the type who enjoy being in the spotlight. Dodo was amazed that anyone would want to be in the midday Singapore sun and I agree. I don't think I could last more then ten minutes. It would be nice to go for a night swim, though. By all accounts the hotel and especially the casino are doing well, drawing mainland Chinese by the planeload.
