Harajuku means "old town" in Japanese, but it's known for being the center of Tokyo street fashion. It looks like any other Tokyo neighborhood: buildings chock-a-block, telephone wires dangling overhead, narrow streets and alleyways.

This shot is from early Sunday morning, whilst most were asleep. But soon, they started to wake up.

I sat and people-watched on the sidewalk, looking for interesting fashions. The young girl on the left won the contest. You should click on the picture and really zoom in on her outfit - it is something else.

This neighborhood is the epicenter of youth culture in Tokyo. Everything is made to be "kawaii", or cute. Even the act of buying condows has been co-opted by kawaii culture. This is the Condomania store, with pictures of four cute girls imploring you to buy. I wish I knew enough Japanese to translate exactly what they are saying.
