Guayaquil, Ecuador - Seminario Park

You're Being Watched
Yes, just another park in yet another city in front of yet another church.  We didn't go for the architecture or the history.  This park is known for something completely different.

Even when you know they're there, it takes a while to spot them, then once you do you notice they're everywhere.  This small park has close to 200 iguanas living in it.

They're native to the area and thrive due to the fact that they're not on anyone's menu.  Apparently the park cleaners and the businesses surrounding the park feed them.
There was a discussion ten years ago about taking them out of the park and putting them in the wild.  They called in the biologists to take a look.  Their opinion was that they're adapted to the park, no longer know how to hunt and thus moving them to the wild would be their death sentence.

So, they're here, skittering around the monument to Simon Bolivar...
...sunning themselves on the lawn....
...and pushing out birds from their branch space.
