Turns out, Troy is on the board of the Vanderbilt Mansion's gardens. I am not sure what that entails exactly, but it meant we could drive right up to them rather than park in the distant lots. As most things Vanderbilt, it was over the top, or at least it was when they created them. On the right is the head gardener's house and on the left the "tool shed."
There was a lovely fountain at one end......
....and a gravel path amongst the flower beds.
We walked around at a leisurely pace, sat and contemplated nothing in particular. The dogs were especially fond of this place.
We did not go into the mansion itself.
Some painters were having a go at a river scene.
Troy explained that this was just one of many Vanderbilt Mansions spread around the globe. This was their "hunting lodge", if you can believe it. They came up for a few weeks a year to hunt on their property.
