Hyde Park - B&B

AirBnB Comes Through
AirBnB is the internet's answer to linking up those who want to rent out their bedrooms or houses with those want to rent them.  Jean and I have used it all around the world with great success.  Jean booked us into two bedrooms of this house, just a 1/4 mile up the road from the Vanderbilt Mansion.  Troy, the owner, hosted us for two days and went above and beyond the call of duty.

He is, to say the least, a character.  He is a Minnesotan of Scandinavian origin who has gone back to his roots with a vengeance.  After a trip to Norway as a teenager he went Scandi-crazy.  He learned fluent Norwegian, is planning to import a Norwegian cheese into the US, his house is outfitted with Scandinavian furniture, he drive a Saab and talks Scandinavia non-stop.  He was sipping Aquavit the night we arrived.

The daily breakfast he provided was a Scandinavian feast.  Rolled oats and/or granola with Scandinavian cottage cheeses, various fruits and fruit juices, coffee, homemade cured salmon, heart-shaped waffles and cheeses.  It was delicious and filling.

The night we arrived he was hosting his weekly dinner for friends, which included a cheesecake from the Culinary Institute of America.  We declined his invite to join for dinner as we had a reservation at the Culinary Institute ourselves.
