The Perfect Test
Just as the foreman said "we're done, come have a look" a large thunder clap punctuated his sentence. Perfect timing. I ran up and got a quick tutorial and in no time it was pouring rain. I stood inside my newly created cocoon and watched and waited. It was a typical afternoon deluge but not as windy as usual.
I stayed almost perfectly dry. The floor got wet, the rain rolls down the sunscreens onto the floor as designed. Overall, it worked pretty well. I didn't expect to be able to stay dry in so strong a downpour so that was a pleasant surprise.
The sunscreens are porous, enough to let the wind breeze through while holding the water. Here is a short video showing the action:

Your roof configuation shows something that looks like a trench with the base at ground level. Is that a potential plant box?
@Sal - not a potential one, an actual one. There are two others across from that one on the outside walls. They will all be filled with trees and flowers at some point....
