The gardening guys carried the soil one bag at a time up the stairs. I estimate they took 250 trips. By the time they were done, they were covered in it. The soil here is bright orange, full of clay and very moist and heavy. It was impressive. Four of them worked from 9am to 10:30pm to get the job done. We put heather in the inner planter.
In the outer planter, the one that clings to the edge of the roof, we put lantana. We're hoping it grows up another 7-8 inches so it peeks over the railing.
Along the western wall, five "Golden Panda" trees and a mix of the heather and lantana. We already had a few birds visit and the butterflies should arrive when the flowers do.
This is how they look when they bloom. Now, since neither of us is a green thumb, ours may never flower and might even die. We'll find out.

Your lantana is gorgeous--my favorite color.
