Man the Hatches
You have to play close attention. If you doze off in the afternoon with the windows open you could awake to a flood around your ankles. The storms roll in dark and angry. I'm still amazed by the amount of water that comes down in thirty minutes.

Milan - Trams
The Best Way to Get Around
The best thing about Milan is the coffee. Next best are the trams. The kind that run on rails using overhead electrical wires for power. I preferred these old dinosaurs.

Milan - Stone
Nature is Overrated
There must be a quarry the size of the Grand Canyon nearby. In the old part of the city, everything is made of stone.

Milan - Italian Allergies
Spring Comes Early in Milan
It hit me the moment we landed, I felt the subtle shift inside my cranium. Within an hour I had a full blown sinus flareup and skipped dinner so I could sleep. The next morning I saw why. Everything was flowering.

Milan - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele
Not Your Average Mall
This is supposedly one of the first - two intersecting streets covered with a cast iron and glass roof. It is truly gob-stopping. When you walk in you immediately freeze in place and stare upwards.

Milan - il Duomo
Well Worth the 600 Year Wait?
All roads begin at the Duomo, Milan's bullseye. They started to build her in 1386 and didn't finish until the early 1800's when Napoleon, the newly crowned King of Italy, spared no expense on her facade. It's as bright and dazzling outside as it is dark and dank on the inside. I wanted to take photos of the interior but it was not allowed.

Milan - Opening Thoughts
She Didn't Offer the Best First Impression
When I awoke and peered out my hotel window I rubbed my eyes a few times. I was still groggy and wasn't quite sure where I was. Budapest? Warsaw? Milan, at least the area I was staying in, looked like an ugly Eastern European cousin. Drab blocks of utilitarian apartments ringed wide boulevards with balding greenery.

Pollen and Electricity
Too much of one and not enough of the other. I woke up early this morning and headed to Il Duomo, the large church in the city center. I immediately noticed a few things. One, I was the only one awake. Two, it's spring here and the pollen was attacking me from all angles. Lastly, my camera battery was dead. I headed back to the hotel to charge it. Hopefully, you will be seeing some of my photos soon, this is a stock photo from the internet.

Milan - Here I Come!
Quick Weekend Trip
I've been to Venice, Rome and most of Tuscany but now I will try out Milano. I leave tonight at 7pm and come back late Sunday. I got a hotel room near the center of town so I can walk around. Forecast is mixed - mid-sixties with sun on Saturday and rain on Sunday. Photos and stories to come. Geppie - I may ping you for some translations!

Singapore - The Kimchi Coming Out Party
Better than Expected
This was the day of reckoning. I pumped it up, calling it the "Kimchi Coming Out Party." Most agreed to come but forewarned they "don't really like Kimchi." Three months had passed since we tucked it way in the fridge in the special container.

Singapore - Next to Last Thing...
Before I Head Back to Paris
I fly back to Paris on Monday night for two weeks. Tomorrow the roof chairs are scheduled to arrive. In the past few days we got the lights over the dining table installed. I bought these in Paris, they're meant to look like large light bulbs.

Singapore - Tokyo Tower Update
This One's for Geppie
Yes, finally, I have begun to paint. A color called cobalt grey. I felt a lot of pressure while I had the brush in my hand. My girlfriend has been clowning me, exclaiming to family and friends that "he's gonna do it HIMSELF??!?!?" Apparently, it's just not done here. You always hire a pro to paint.
