Eating

First Up, An Institution
We took a short walk towards downtown to Cafe Louvre, a legendary Prague eatery and pool hall. A list of former dining luminaries hangs just inside the front door. This was Albert Einstein's regular spot when he was a professor in Prague. It's an old-world place with wooden floors, period paintings and an antique newspaper rack that probably outdates the place. First shock - there was a non-smoking room. The Czech Republic is in the EU but they still let folks smoke indoors.

There was a tantalizing shelf of cakes and pies but I toed the line...

I wanted to get a typical Czech breakfast and guess what - they had exactly that. It was a plate of ham and cheese, pickles, butter, tomatoes and a soft-boiled egg. Coffee, orange juice and seltzer water. You should have seen Pingle's face when she sipped the seltzer thinking it was just regular water. There was also a basket of breads, the common themes of which wer the salted crusts and jaw-working chewiness. There were many Czechs eating there and many were eating this combo. Definitely good fuel for a day of walking.
