Singapore - The Towers, Part IV

Just One More Act to Go
I've been interested in the three towers being built on the marina and have followed them as they've gone up. I didn't know what they were at first but later learned they're the Singapore branch of the famous Las Vegas Sands hotel-casino. Check out the shots from Jan 2009, May 2009 and Feb 2010. They finally opened up for business so I took the old lady for a night's stay. Each tower has rooms facing either downtown or the ocean and a soaring lobby.

We got a room in tower 1, facing downtown. Pingles, the world traveler, inspected the room and called down to the front desk to demand we be moved to a room with a king-sized bed. No such luck. That put a temporary damper on the festivities.

No complaints about the bathroom - it was huge and had a nice tub that I soaked in for a spell the next morning.

The views were spectacular. We looked over the casino roof towards the downtown skyscrapers. A storm had just passed when I took this shot.

We also had a nice view of the marina. If you click on the photo you'll see the Esplanade - the two jackfruit-shaped pods that comprise the downtown art scene.

The nighttime view was sweet, though my camera didn't have the pedigree to capture it.

As I peered down into the lobby from outside our 17th floor room, I realized that this will be the exact height of our condo. I didn't feel too comfortable up there - it's a lot higher than I expected. I don't think I'll be looking out from the condo roof garden too much.

Here's the opposite view - from the lobby upwards. There's a large hanging sculpture that looks like an intricate molecule.

After we checked in we strolled over to the casino and took in the scale of it. Looked to be pretty big though we never got closer than this shot. We intended to go back later in the evening....

....but someone crashed out. No problem, we'll go back for the final act - the opening of their roof deck, 57 stories up....

How windy is in Singapore?? I have nightmares about being blown off the roof many storeys above the ground -- tho I guess you could die from falling one storey.

@Sal - it gets windy from time to time. Ideally, you'd like a nice breeze to blow up there on the 16th/17th floors to keep the temp down, just not so fierce that it blows you off.....
