Singapore - Development

They Call it "Enbloc"
Enbloc is a collective sale of apartments or houses to a developer, who then razes the building(s) and builds something new.  From what I read, 75% of the owners must agree to it.  Embloc is happening all around us.  Across the street, near the subway entrance, the houses were knocked flat in a week.  In their place will be a 5-story condominium.
Just south of that empty patch and next in line are these buildings, which I've highlighted with a double red line.  They will be razed in May.  Not sure how tall the replacements buildings will be.  Opinions vary amongst my neighbors.  Some claim the zoning is a maximum of five stories but who knows.
If that weren't enough the building right next to us, on our south side, is already emptied out and will be knocked down soon.  A single condo tower, same height as ours, will be taking its place.  It is to be called 18 Woodsville, which is the building's address.
Just around the corner, the developer erected a showroom to sell the units.  Apparently, they are selling well.  This is how its done in Singapore - you buy your new condo sight unseen.  In our case, the developer created scale sample apartments that we walked around in to get a feel for the look and size. For the next few years there will be construction all around us.  Hopefully it won't be too noisy.

Yes, that's true. The pace of destruction and construction here is unceasing. Subways, highways, downtown skyscrapers, public housing, private condominiums, sports stadiums....
