Paris - Fête de la Musique

Celebrating the Solstice with Music
Every year on the solstice there is a music festival here in Paris (and throughout France.) There are free concerts all over the city, many by amateurs who set up on the street and sing their hearts out. This young lady took up a spot in front of the bubble tea cafe in Les Halles and sang about Sarkozy and other topics.

These fellas had a somewhat fancier setup - a stage within an inner courtyard on rue Vieille du Temple.

This is the most alive I've seen Paris - it shook off its usual sleepiness and resembled NY on a regular day. There were crowds of people hanging out, celebrating the first day of summer.

The Korean drummer/dancers had a sparse but supportive crowd.

The Japanese modern jazz crew had a deeper crowd and better outfits.

Best of all, in my opinion, were the people who lived above Pozzetto, a gelateria on rue de Roi Sicile. They setup a turntable and speakers in their living room window and sang along on a microphone to the songs they played. The crowd really enjoyed this.
