Paris - The Minglettes
They're a Chip off the Old Block
Ming is our project admin assistant. I call her the Wolf, after the Harvey Keitel character in Pulp Fiction. She can get anything done. She's the one who can get you a reservation to that "impossible to get into restaurant" or get your computer fixed or tell you what bus to take to get anywhere. She knows how to get it done - which makes sense, she's American. She found us the store to buy ping pong gear and she'll definitely be the one to find us our javelin. She had her kids in tow last night for the ping pong battle and they were characters. Enzo is on the left and Manon is on the right.

Paris - Decathlon Update
The Kid Takes a 1-0 Lead....
We kicked off the decathlon last night in a park next to the Picasso Museum. We bought our cheap ping pong paddles the day before and trekked over to the park after work last night. In Paris, many of the parks have outdoor ping pong tables - Pingles recommended this park because the tables were close to a wall, which reduced wind effect. Colin, my decathlon competitor, and I warmed up for a bit - I don't think either of us knew what to expect out of the other. After a few volleys I knew I had him - he didn't have the goods. Below is a shot of a different colleague of mine at the table we used.

Paris - Working from Home
It's Real Hard (not)
I have a lot to do today - so much that I decided to work from home. When I go to work I get interrupted by people asking questions and harassing me. Of course, it's not really working as planned - first I woke up about 8:00 then took the bus with the Dodomode to the 7th for breakfast. I played a bit of Mah Jong, surfed the web, corrected some photos and am now writing this post - from my couch-bed. This is my view. Sunny, warm, blue-skyed. "Hey, Dodo, where we going for lunch?"

Paris - Savoring the Food Moments
This is the Look of Bliss
Of course, not bliss from looking at me, but bliss from our dinner last night. It was pretty good. A Japanese meal that was a cut above - write-up on the Puff List coming....

Brooklyn - End of Summer
It's Been Great
We're headed to the airport in a few hrs. I won't be back to NY until fall, so this is the end of my NY summer. I'm really sad about it - I don't want to leave. I've enjoyed it tremendously. I've seen some friends, played golf, eaten lots of ice cream, taken lots of walks and sat outside at many a cafe. My favorite newspaper reading spot, shown below, is at the corner of State and Henry. During my retired days I sat here everyday. I'm off to Paris for 3 weeks, then Asia for 3 then Paris for 3. By the time I get back to NY it will be fall. Hopefully it'll be warm and sunny still.

Brooklyn - Serious Reading
I'm Getting Ready
Rather than reading nordic murder mysteries, I'm boning up on my Mah Jong skills. I use the term "skills" loosely - I generally have no idea what I'm doing. I read this book once before but now that I've played more I'm starting to pick up things the second read through. I'm back in Singapore in August and I'm tired of donating to the Aunties. I've been reading, practicing and discussing strategy with my coach. I think I'm slowly getting better but ask me at the end of August....

Brooklyn - Summer Reading
The Girl Who Read Nordic Murder Mysteries
A certain someone, after seeing the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, has become smitten with Nordic murder mysteries. I didn't even know it was a genre. She's read all of the "Girl" books and has moved on to Iceland murders. Didn't even know they had murders in Iceland.

Manhattan - the New Economy
The Little Perqs
I don't work for a New Economy company, but we own one and I sit in their building. You can ride your bike to work, take the service elevator and lock up right on the floor. Really cool. Oh, and the good news? You have to leave by 4:30pm, that's when the service elevator closes.

Brooklyn - Fashion Shoot
Dumbo
If you're not in the know, Dumbo stands for "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass." Taken by Pingles on the iPhone.
