London - Best of the Isles

No, Not Beer - Cheese
Luckily, my colleagues love cheese.  We went to a cheese shop last night and stocked up on three interesting varieties from the British Isles.  On the left is a Stichelton - an unpasteurized blue that uses the original Stilton starter.  On the right, something called "Stinking Bishop" from Gloucestershire, which is washed with fermented pear juice of the same name.  Not shown is a Welsh variety called Gorwydd Caerphilly.

They were triple wrapped and bagged but on the subway ride home people were looking around, trying to figure out where the stink was coming from.  These are strong cheeses.  We brought them back to the hotel and stored them in the mini-fridge.  This morning we had a cheese breakfast.  We put chunks of them on baguette slices and drizzled them with honey.  We were munching away in heaven for thirty minutes before we noticed nobody was sitting near us. We had a corner of the breakfast room all to ourselves.  The smell chased everyone away.
